Door Knobs
Shop by category
We supply fixed door knobs on an oval backplate in seven finishes and three lock functions. A knob does not turn, so it does not operate a latch: it is a pull, not a lever. That single fact decides whether it belongs on the door you have in mind.
Measure these before you order
- Bore centres: 200 mm. The oval plate is 245 x 45 x 10 mm with 200 mm between the fixing holes. Measure your existing holes before ordering.
- Centres to the lock: 55 mm or 56 mm. The euro cylinder version sits at 55 mm from the knob centre, the keyhole version at 56 mm.
- Door thickness: 38 to 50 mm. Above that, the fixings need to be longer than the ones supplied.
Where a knob works and where it does not
A fixed knob cannot retract a latch. Use it on a door that is held by a roller catch, a magnetic catch or a lock that is operated by the key or cylinder rather than by the handle. Front doors and cupboard doors are the classic cases.
On an ordinary interior door with a sprung latch you need a lever handle instead, because something has to turn the follower. This is the single most common return reason on knobs, so it is worth checking the door before you order.
Our advice: use knobs on the outside of an entrance door or on doors without a latch, and lever handles on every internal door that has to be pushed open.
Finishes
- Brushed stainless steel. Corrosion resistant and forgiving of fingerprints.
- Matt black and bronze. Coated finishes with an even colour. Bronze is lacquered and keeps its tone rather than patinating.
- Gunmetal, gold, rose gold and champagne PVD. Vacuum bonded and harder than plating, so they resist scratching where hands land every day.
Frequently asked questions
Does the knob turn? No. It is fixed, which is why it needs a catch or a key operated lock behind it.
What is supplied? One knob on its backplate with the fixing material. Order two if you want a knob on both faces.
Which version has no keyhole? The blind version, for doors that do not lock.
Is a cylinder included? No, the PC55 version takes a euro profile cylinder that you order to suit your door.
Can I combine a knob outside with a lever inside? Yes, that is the usual arrangement on an entrance door.
