Strike Plates

We supply rounded strike plates in bronze for the frame side of the door. The plate is what the latch or bolt actually lands in, and it is the part that stops the frame wearing away. Which one you need follows directly from the lock case in the door.

Check these before you order

• The lock function. A latch lock, a cabinet lock and a day and night lock each need their own opening pattern. Match the plate to the lock, not to the door.
• The existing recess. Hold the new plate against the current one before you unscrew anything, so you know whether the frame needs any chiselling.
• Corner shape: rounded. All three plates have radiused corners, so they suit a routed recess rather than a chiselled square one.

Which plate goes with which lock

The latch lock plate has a single opening for the sprung latch, and is what most interior doors use. The cabinet lock plate takes a straight bolt, for cupboard and utility doors that are turned shut with a key.

The day and night plate has two openings, one for the latch and one for the bolt, so the door can be pushed shut in the day and locked at night.

Our advice: replace the strike plate whenever you replace the lock case. It costs very little, and a plate that is even slightly out of line is the usual reason a new lock does not close cleanly.

Finish

• Bronze. A warm dark tone under a lacquer, matching our bronze locks and handles. It is a coated finish and keeps its colour.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a strike plate at all? Yes on any door with a latch or bolt. Without one the latch wears into the frame.

Are screws included? Yes, fixing screws are supplied.

Will it fit my existing recess? Compare it with the plate that is already there. The corners are rounded, so a square recess needs a little work.

Which plate does a day and night lock need? The day and night version, with two openings.
